Omaze Closes $9M Series A Funding

omazeOmaze, a Los Angeles, CA-based charitable giving platform, closed a $9M Series A funding round.

The round was led by FirstMark Capital with participation from Michael Eisner’s Tornante Company, Vayner/RSE, Warby Parker co-founder and co-CEO Dave Gilboa, Boulevard Capital’s Dave Leyrer, CrossCut Ventures, FFVC and entrepreneur and philanthropist Adam Press.

The company intends to use the funds to extend its cause marketplace to include a self-serve platform that enables any school, charity or congregation to leverage Omaze experiences to raise money for themselves.

Founded in 2012 by co-CEOs Matt Pohlson and Ryan Cummins, Omaze leverages original content and social media marketing to spread the word and raise money and awareness for causes also offering the chance to win exclusive experiences – which have included everything to date from a role in the next Star Wars movie (which raised $4.26 million for the UNICEF Innovation Labs), to riding with Arnold Schwarzenegger in his tank and crushing cars, to having John Legend sing at a wedding.
Campaigns have also featured Robert Downey Jr., George Clooney, Jennifer Lawrence, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, John Stewart and TV and film franchises such as Breaking Bad and Star Wars.
