Zūm Raises $5.5M in Series A Funding

Zūm, a Redwood City, CA-based provider of rides and care for families, raised $5.5m in Series A funding.

The round was led by Sequoia Capital. In conjunction with the funding, Bryan Schreier, partner at Sequoia, will be joining Zūm’s board of directors.

The company intends to use the funds for continued product and market expansion, as well as the development of strategic partnerships and initiatives.

Led by Ritu Narayan, Co-founder and CEO, Zūm matches families with a small pool of drivers to provide optimal child care on the way to school and activities.
The company currently serves families from over 800 schools in the San Francisco Bay Area and Orange County, and over one hundred public, charter, and private schools use them as their exclusive rideshare partner to meet the transportation needs of their students and families.
With the back-to-school season, Zūm launched three new products including:
– Zūm Carpools, which allow parents to coordinate with nearby friends and neighbors to create single or recurring carpools to and from school, activities, playdates, and more,
– Zūm School Integration, which gives schools real time visibility into their students’ ride activity on Zūm,
– Zūm Monthly Plans, which allow parents to book recurring pick-ups and drop-offs for the full school year at a low monthly payment.
