Shark Punch Raises $1.2M in Funding

sharkpunkShark Punch, a San Francisco, California and Helsinki, Finland-based social discovery and community platform for games, raised $1.2m in funding.

The round was led by London Venture Partners, which is investing from their seed fund and their AngelList syndicate, with participation from DN Capital, Reaktor Polte, as well as private angel investors. In conjunction with the funding, Paul Heydon, Partner at LVP, will join Shark Punch’s Board of Directors.

Founded in 2014 by Jiri Kupiainen, Leo Lännenmäki, Aarne Hunziker and Harri Manninen, Shark Punch operates Playfield.io, which allows players to find games and developers to connect directly with their gamer communities. It uses proprietary algorithms to find new games that the community can vote on, comment on, and follow, with social- and interest-based personalized recommendations in the making.
The service’s open beta is currently available online at http://playfield.io, with mobile soon to follow.
