Canva Launches with $3M in Seed Funding

Canva, a Sydney, Australia-based provider of an online graphic design platform that allows users to create professional designs, launched with $3m in seed funding.

Backers in the round, which was closed earlier in 2013, included:
Lars Rasmussen, Facebook Director of Engineering and co-founder of Google Maps,
Ken Goldman, Yahoo! CFO,
Bill Tai, Twitter investor,
Matrix Partners,
InterWest Partners, and
500 Startups.

Led by CEO Melanie Perkins, Canva launched an online graphic design platform that brings together a drag-and-drop design tool with a library of more than 1 million photographs, graphics and fonts sourced from talented photographers, illustrators and designers. It also provides professional designers with tools to create layouts and collaborate with clients and allows them to earn money by contributing their own graphic elements and layouts to Canva.

The platform will be rolled out to limited users in the U.S. and Australia starting from today.
