sqrrl Closes $2M Seed Funding

sqrrl, a cambridge, MA-based Big Data software company that provides products for Apache Accumulo, has closed a $2m seed funding round.

Backers include Atlas Venture and Matrix Partners.

The company intends to use the capital to aggressively hire to meet the demand for Big Data products and accelerate the release of an enterprise version of Apache Accumulo that extends the core technology.

Led by Oren J. Falkowitz, co-founder and CEO, sqrrl offers products focused on Apache Accumulo, a distributed key/value store which handles large amounts of structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data as a robust, scalable, and real-time data storage and retrieval system.

In conjunction with the funding, Chris Lynch of Atlas and Antonio Rodriguez of Matrix will join the company’s board.
