Esports Gaming Startup Taunt Raises $3M in Seed

Taunt, a Seattle, WA-based platform for esports fans to predict game outcomes and flaunt their skills, closed $3m in seed financing.

The round was led by Foundry Group, with participation from Pioneer Square Labs’ venture arm PSL Ventures, Paul Allen’s Vulcan Capital, and esports industry investor CRCM Ventures. Foundry Group Managing Director Brad Feld serves on Taunt’s board of directors.

Led by CEO Jon David, former Executive Producer of the Bejeweled and Plants vs. Zombies franchises at PopCap, Taunt is a platform for esports viewers to engage with each other through game-driven social experiences.
It will provide a new way to watch esports via a game that challenges fans and their friends to compete against each other (or the rest of the world) during live professional matches. Players use their knowledge to answer live challenges, predict game events, and take action against friends and rivals to rise to the top of leaderboards.

Taunt will be available to download this summer.

Founded inside Seattle-based startup studio Pioneer Square Labs.
