Artfinder Raises First Funding

Artfinder, a London, UK-based company that operates an online services designed to improve consumer access to the world of fine art, has raised its first funding of undisclosed amount.
The round was led by Wellington Partners, with participation from Greylock Discovery Fund and and angel investor Sherry Coutu.
In conjunction with the funding, Daniel Waterhouse of Wellington Partners, has joined Artfinder’s board of directors.
The company, which launched its website into public beta today, is led by CEO Spencer Hyman. Artfinder plans to improve the way that consumers find, enjoy, share, learn about and purchase art on the web, mobile and tablets.
Artfinder’s online catalogue of fine art includes over 250,000 works from over 400 institutions. On the website, consumers can create their own “art gallery”, collect favourite artworks, and share them with their friends via Facebook, Twitter and email. A “magic tour” helps consumers discover art whilst also exploring works that are recommended by friends and passionate experts.
