6AM City, a Greenville, SC-based local daily newsletter company, raised an undisclosed amount in Series A funding.
The round was led by TEGNA Inc. with participation from existing investors American Investment Holdings, VentureSouth, and Harbright Ventures.
The company intends to use the funds to accelerate its expansion into new markets.
Led by CEO Ryan Johnston, 6AM City is a newsletter-first local media company delivering news and events via a daily email at 6 a.m. The newsletters are a five-minute read, conversational in tone and avoid politics and divisive content. It seeks to be a distribution center for local content, specializing in delivering information in an accessible way that engages the audience, and drives performance and profitability.
Commenting on the news, Ryan Johnston said: “This partnership with an established and trusted network of local news and sports content brands across the country will accelerate our reach and ability to innovate across platforms.”
