Picnic, an Amsterdam, The Netherlands-based online supermarket, raised €355M in funding.
Backers included Edeka, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Trust, and Dutch family businesses.
The company intends to use the funds to expand its business reach and augment its robotization and automation efforts.
Founded in 2015 by Michiel Muller, Frederik Nieuwenhuys, Joris Beckers, and Bas Verheijen, Picnic is an online supermarket that enables customers to order and have their grocery shop delivered at home in Netherlands, and some cities in Germany, and France. The company handles almost everything in-house: forecasting, developing their first automated warehouse and new electric Picnic vehicles, internal and customer-facing applications, etc.
