Snowstorm Raises $3M in Seed Funding

Snowstorm

Snowstorm, a New York-based company which specializes in fighting censorship and restrictions on the free flow of information on the open internet, raised $3M in Seed funding.

The round was led by Seed Club Ventures.

The company intends to use the funds to iterate its core product and continue to build its team.

Snowstorm provides a decentralized network of ephemeral proxies which enable users to access the free and open internet from anywhere in the world. By disguising traffic as a standard voice or video call, Snowstorm evades firewalls, tracking, and censorship, and has proven unblockable in places where traditional VPNs are blocked. Its solution is scalable in two ways:

  • Via the B2C subscription models existing VPN providers use; and
  • Licensing Snowstorm network access to those same providers in a B2B model.

The technology is an outgrowth of, and an improvement upon, the Snowflake protocol and code written by Snowstorm founder Serene. It was field-tested throughout the world by hundreds of thousands of people as part of the Tor browser, enabling users to establish connections in the face of extensive blocking, obfuscate traffic from observation, and defend all user’s access to the internet.
