Oso-AI Raises €10M In Series A Funding

Oso-AI

Oso-AI, a Brest, France-based company focused on Ambient intelligence (Aml) for vulnerable people and caregivers, raised €10M in Series A funding.

The round was led by Innovacom, Novinvest Partners and Breizh Up, with participation from Cemag Invest Partners.

Led by CEO Olivier Menut, Oso-AI is a technological startup specialized in Ambient Intelligence. It has developed  artificial intelligence and sound recognition technology, called Augmented Ear for Caregivers, which can detect critical situations of vulnerable patients and relieve the workload of healthcare workers.

Non-invasive, OSO-AI’s Augmented Ear solution consists of a box equipped with microphones and sensors coupled with algorithms that analyze in real time all suspicious sounds and noises in the environment of vulnerable populations (elderly, disabled people). This box is linked to an application on a smartphone or tablet, which is made available to the care staff, who can thus quickly identify suspicious or abnormal situations requiring an intervention. Trained on several million sound samples, qualified by the OSO-AI teams, the algorithms of this augmented ear are capable of accurately analyzing more than 150 classes of sounds and noises such as falls, shocks, breathing, snoring, vomiting, footsteps, and of course the words of vulnerable people as well as any intrusion of a third person. This technology aims to facilitate and lighten the work of caregivers who are responsible for vulnerable people, within specialized establishments, while strictly respecting the confidentiality of the patient-caregiver relationship.

Co-developed since 2018 in real-life conditions with La Croix Rouge, Brest University Hospital and Vyv3 Handicap establishments, OSO-AI’s devices have so far been deployed in around 20 institutions in France (retirement homes, university hospitals, establishments for disabled people as well as for children and adolescents with significant motor deficits) and in private homes as part of experiments with key players in remote assistance.

The company, which currently employs 30 highly qualified people, intends to use the funds to support the growth of its AI-driven Augmented Ear for caregivers to meet the demand from medical and social establishments for its Ambient intelligence solution.
