GaeaStar Raises $6.5M in Seed Funding

GaeaStar, a Berlin, Germany-based technology company creating thin clay containers, raised $6.5M in Seed funding.

Backers included Morningside Technology Ventures, At Inc. Ventures, Dart Labs Ventures, VSC Ventures, Sand Hill Angels, and Climate Capital Ventures.

The company intends to use the funds to accelerate growth, expand operations and its business reach, to bring its products to the United States, starting in San Francisco.

Led by Founder Sanjeev Mankotia, GaeaStar provides clay containers to bring a viable alternative to plastic products for food and beverage. Its products work to reduce waste and pollution, whilst enhancing the user experience and reducing the true cost. Developed via additive manufacturing, or 3D printing, and made of three simple ingredients – clay, water, and salt – the cups and bowls are geoneutral, leaving behind zero harmful waste. Users can discard the containers in the normal trash or smash them on the ground, and they simply turn to dust.
