Appwrite Raises $27M in Series A Funding

Appwrite, a Tel Aviv, Israel-based provider of an open source Backend-as-a-Service (BaaS) platform for Web, Mobile, and Flutter applications, raised $27M in Series A funding.

The round was led by Tiger Global Management with participation from Bessemer Venture Partners, Flybridge Capital Partners, Ibex Investors, and Seedcamp.

The company intends to use the funds to expand its fully remote and global team across all departments with an emphasis on engineering and marketing, and product development, and support the open source community.

Led by CEO Eldad Fux, Appwritre is an end-to-end Backend-as-a-Service (Baas) platform for Web, Mobile, and Flutter applications. The self-hosted solution offers developers a set of REST APIs to manage their core backend needs, build secure applications and integrate them with user authentication & multiple sign-in methods. It includes a database for storing and querying users and team data, storage and file management, image manipulation, Cloud Functions and more.

Appwrite is one of the fastest growing open-source platforms on GitHub today with more than 150,000 developers and 550 maintainers around the globe. Since the seed round, the company has introduced real-time capabilities, a native Software Development Kit (SDK) for both Android and iOS, and major upgrades to existing services.
