Opaque Systems Raises $9.5M in Seed Funding

Opaque Systems, a San Francisco, CA-based provider of a secure data analytics platform, raised $9.5M in seed funding.

The round was led by Intel Capital with participation from Race Capital, The House Fund, and FactoryHQ.

The company intends to use the funds to expand operations and its business reach, as well as its contribution to the open source and data security community.

Led by Raluca Ada Popa and Ion Stoica, Opaque provides solutions that allows enterprises to analyze confidential data in the cloud using popular tools like Apache Spark, the open-source analytics engine. The solution leverages a novel combination of two key technologies layered on top of cloud security—secure hardware enclaves and cryptographic fortification. This combination ensures that the overall computation is secure, fast, and scalable.

The technology has already been used by organizations like Scotiabank, IBM, Ant Group and Ericsson.

The company born out of UC Berkeley.
