Henri de Castries, former Chairman and CEO of AXA Group, has joined global growth equity firm General Atlantic as Chairman of Europe and special advisor.
In his roles, Mr. de Castries will advise General Atlantic’s investment teams in evaluating investment opportunities in the region and assisting in value creation across the firm’s existing global portfolio companies.
He has spent a total of 27 years at AXA. During this time, he oversaw multiple merger and acquisitions transactions including the acquisition of Group UAP in 1997 and Winterthur Group in 2007, both of which were instrumental in building AXA Group’s global presence across 64 countries.
Prior to AXA, he served in the French Treasury Department, during which time he was appointed to oversee foreign exchange markets and balance of payments.
Currently, Mr. de Castries serves as Chairman of the French think tank, Institut Montaigne. He also serves as a non-executive director of HSBC Group, Nestlé S.A. and the French National Foundation for Political Science. Until 2016, Mr. de Castries served 2 as a member of the Advisory Board of Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management.
