Palo Alto, CA-based early-stage venture capital firm Amino Capital Management Company (formerly zPark Venture) closed its $50m second fund.
Amino Capital II, L.P.(formerly zPark Capital II, L.P.) focuses on investing in artificial intelligence (AI), data-driven startups.
Dr. Huican Zhu – pioneer of Google image search and Asian language search – joined the fund as a general partner to reinforce its investment focus. The second fund expands investments to include not only seed-stage ventures but also Series A and B startups.
Led by founding partners Larry Li, Dr. Jun Wu, Dr. Sue Xu, and newly appointed Dr. Zhu, Amino Capital started its first fund in 2012 focusing on seed and pre-A round, and invested in 39 startups. The fund exited Orbeus, a computer vision algorithm maker (acquired by Amazon in 2015), Assemblage, which provides tools and infrastructure to enable browser collaboration (acquired by Cisco in 2014), and Contastic, which offers natural language-based predictive sales tools (acquired by SugarCRM in 2016).
