NantCell, a Culver City. LA-based company that focuses on the discovery and development of disease treatments through cell-based therapies at the molecular level, announced today that VBC Holdings, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of NantWorks, acquired VivaBioCell SpA, a Udine, Italy-based biotechnology company.
The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
With the acquisition of VivaBioCell, NantCell adds novel and complementary cell culture capabilities and extended its geographic presence.
Led by Prof. Francesco Curcio, President and CSO, VivaBioCell has developed automated medical devices that enable standardized medical treatments by creating a tissue engineering manufacturing capability. Current applications include developing stem cell for the treatment of osteoarthritis as well as bone regeneration for dental /maxillofacial reconstruction while the system will be utilized to develop manufacturing for immune cells utilized in the treatment of cancer such as natural killer cells.
As part of the deal, NantCell also acquired VivaBioCell’s diagnostic product, which is capable of identifying patients with systemic sclerosis and systemic lupus erythematosus. In addition, Aladinn Ventures, the venture capital arm of Friulia Veneto Sviluppo Sgr, divested the company.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
