Blippar, a NYC-based augmented reality and Image-recognition platform, raised $45m in funding.
Investors remained undisclosed.
The company intends to use the funds to expand its engineering team and extend the global reach of its image-recognition capabilities.
Led by Ambarish Mitra, Founder and CEO, Blippar provides an image-recognition platform for brands, advertisers, and publishers, to enable physical newspapers, magazines, products, signage and merchandising. Utilizing proprietary technology, the company enables users to enjoy interactive, digital content experiences and engage with their favorite publications, brands and celebrities via their iOS, Android, or Windows mobile devices. Since launching in the UK in 2011, Blippar has partnered with Condé Nast, TIME Inc., Unilever, Kraft, Nestlé, Heinz, Coca-Cola, Anheuser Busch, Xbox, L’Oréal, Universal Pictures and Jaguar.
The company has more than 200 employees across ten international offices in US, Europe and Asia. In 2014, it acquired Layar.
