OpenSignal Closes $4M Series A Funding

OpenSignal, a London, UK-based provider of information on wireless networks, closed $4m Series A funding.

The round was led by Qualcomm Ventures with participation from O’Reilly AlphaTech Ventures and Passion Capital.

The company intends to use the funds to hire new people (http://opensignal.com/jobs/).

Co-founded by Brendan Gill, CEO, James Robinson, CTO, and Sam Westwood, COO, OpenSignal is creating a comprehensive database of cell phone towers, cell phone signal strength readings, and Wi-Fi access points around the world. The data is collected by users of the company’s Android and iPhone application.
