Newsle, a San Francisco, CA-based platform to track friends and colleagues when they’re mentioned in news articles or blog posts, has been acquired by LinkedIn (LNKD).
The amount of the transaction was not disclosed.
Co-founded by Axel Hansen and Jonah Varon, Newsle is a web application that allows users to follow real news about Facebook friends, LinkedIn contacts, and favorite public figures. It finds real news about Facebook friends and LinkedIn contacts (no social noise) and combines this with news about public figures they select, in a single newsfeed.
The platform, which is used by 2 million people, will remain available as a standalone service as they combine all the functionality with LinkedIn’s core services.
