Oorja Logo Final rev.3Oorja, a Fremont, Calif.-based provider of liquid fuel cell technology, closed a Series E investment round of undisclosed amount.

New investor Mingxin China Growth Fund joined previous backers DAG Ventures.

The company intends to use the funds to expand operations into the telecommunications industry for network towers and grow its global distribution network.

Led by Dr. Sanjiv Malhotra, CEO and president, Oorja provides patented Direct Methanol Fuel Cells (DMFC) powered by methanol.
The company’s system, which provides a high-power solution for multiple applications, is already in use by some of large materials handling and telecommunications companies.

The round followed a $4.2m purchase order and distribution agreement in Latin America and other milestones including a strategic partnership for commercialization and distribution of methanol fuel cells in South Africa with HySA/Catalysis and a research agreement with Lawrence Berkeley National Lab to develop fuel cells for electric vehicles.
