Stipple, a San Francisco,CA-based provider of image-based commerce and advertising solutions, has raised an additional $3m in funding from Sands Capital.
The company intends to use the funding to accelerate product innovation.
Led by Rey Flemings, founder and CEO, Stipple has developed patent-pending technology that connects images across the web to their original owners, enabling real-time distribution of information, media and commerce through their images. All publishers in Stipple’s network and developers using its API earn affiliate and advertising revenue as their audiences interact with “Stipple’d” photos.
By the end of 2012, the platform will have over 100 million tagged and monetize-able images. It recently integrated with Twitter. Merchants leveraging Stipple include Nike, L’Oreal, Zappos, and Nordstrom.
The company is adding Darr Gerscovich who will run the marketing organization, and Stephanie Palmer, who will head up distribution working directly with the network of publishers.
