SkySQL, a Helsinki, Finland-based provider of affordable database solutions for the MySQL® and MariaDB® databases in the enterprise and the cloud, has raised $4m in Series A funding.
Backers include OnCorps, Finnish Industry Investment Ltd., Spintop Ventures and Open Ocean Capital.
The company intends to use the funding for product development, and move from a MySQL and MariaDB services-only company to a fully-fledged database products and services provider. Launched in October 2010, today, SkySQL is currently operating in 13 countries.
Led by CEO Ulf Sandberg, the company has operations in Asia, Europe and North America.
Customers include ATOS Worldline, Canal+, Deutsche Telekom, ClubMed, Lotte.com, La Poste, Constant Contact and Virgin Mobile.
