AppTap Closes $4M Funding

AppTap, a Reston, VA-based contextual app recommendations service and advertising network, has closed a $4m round of institutional funding.

The round was led by Syncom Venture Partners, with participation from existing investor New Atlantic Ventures.

The company intends to use the funding to enhance its app recommendations service for consumers, broadening advertising capabilities for developers and expand global distribution partnerships.

Led by CEO Matt Callaway, AppTap aims to help consumers find apps relevant to their interests through contextual app recommendations in articles on leading media sites, app developers promote their apps through sponsored placements, and media companies and carriers increase user engagement and revenue with app recommendations. The service serves more than 150 million app recommendations a month across an international network of media properties and wireless carriers.

In conjunction with the funding, Roy Kosuge, Syncom Venture Partners, will join the company’s board of directors.

AppTap is currently hiring (http://www.apptap.com/about/jobs/).
