Zipmark Secures $2M in Seed Funding

Zipmark, a New York City-based developer and provider of mobile and online payment solutions, has secured $2m in seed funding.

The round was led by Village Ventures and Contour Venture Partners, with participation from NYC Seed, High Peaks Venture Capital and the New York City Investment Fund.

Launched in 2010 by CEO Jay Bhattacharya and Jake Howerton, the company provides a direct online payment platform that accepts payments from any bank, thrift or credit union checking account, charging 1% for each transaction with a cap at $5 regardless of the payment amount.
The company also offers a biller API, which can be integrated into traditional web payments, and an iPhone app, which is designed to enable users to make payments for items such as rent, fees or subscriptions directly from paper invoices via QR codes.
