Lingueo.com, a Paris, France-based start up operating a social platform designed to help users to learn languages, raised €500,000 in funding.
The capital, provided by three business angels, will be used to promote the service, which proposes a new approach: users can practice a foreign language by speaking with a native speaker tutor through Skype.
Fees vary depending on the tutor (the minimum fee is €10/hour).
In addition, Lingueo provides free access to a linguistic video library.
Founded in 2007 by Guillaume le Dieu de Ville, Arnaud Portanelli and Johann Querne, last year the company received the European Language Label for innovative projects in language teaching and learning from the EU.
