Descript, a San Francisco, CA-based provider of a toolkit for anyone that works with voice audio, raised $5M in seed funding.
The investment was made by Andreesen Horowitz.
The company will use the funds to continue to expand operations and business reach and continue to develop its tools.
Launched as a spin-off of Detour in December 2017 by Andrew Mason, former founder/CEO of Groupon, Descript is advancing tools for anyone who creates, edits or publishes voice audio.
People use Descript to quickly edit down and pull selects from a raw interview tape by editing the text, to get a transcript in under five minutes, and then clean it up with correction and formatting tools, to simplify projects that require working across multiple audio interviews, and to collect comments on audio, Google Docs style.
The startup currently has a team of 8.
