Smart Vision Labs, Inc., a New York City developer of a smartphone-based autorefractor, closed a $6.1M Series A funding round.
The round was led by Techstars Ventures with participation from Heritage Group, Connectivity Capital, and Red Sea Ventures. In conjunction with the funding, Ari Newman, a partner at Techstars Ventures, joined Smart Vision Labs’ Board of Directors.
The company intends to use the funds to further scale production of the SVOne, develop additional products and services, and expand the team.
Founded in 2013 by CEO Yaopeng Zhou and COO Marc Albanese, Smart Vision Labs has developed the SVOne device which uses wavefront aberrometry (an advanced technology used to characterize vision imperfection before performing corrective vision surgery) to measure a patient’s refractive errors. To date, the SVOne has been used to provide vision exams in clinics and mobile screenings in 21 different countries.
The company is working with healthcare professionals to enable access to vision care both domestically and abroad.
