CrowdRise Closes $23M Financing

CrowdriseCrowdRise, a Los Angeles, CA-based online platform supporting crowdfunding projects for charitable causes, closed a $23m financing.

The round was led by Union Square Ventures, with participation from Spark Capital, Index Ventures, RatPac, CAA Ventures, United Talent Agency‘s venture fund, and Bezos Expeditions. In conjunction with the funding, Fred Wilson, USV co-founder, will join the company’s Board of Directors.

Co-founded by actor Edward Norton, producer Shauna Robertson, and the founders of Moosejaw, Jeffrey Wolfe and Robert Wolfe (CEO), CrowdRise is a crowdfunding platform for fundraisers to raise support for their causes. It also provides tools for users to share philanthropic stories with their personal networks to turn friends into an active base of donors. The platform is currently used by thousands of charitable organizations, events, celebrities, and everyday donors.

The company has also launched an expansion to enable people to fundraise for or donate directly to individuals and announced partnerships with the New York City Marathon, the Boston Marathon, the Ironman events, the Red Cross, UNICEF, wedding site The Knot; and the Today Show.
