Sherpa Digital Media Closes Funding

Sherpa Digital Media, a Redwood City, California-based provider of digital media solutions, infrastructure services, and media intelligence tools, closed an additional funding of undisclosed amount.

The round was led by Robert Spass, Founder and Managing Partner of New York-based Capital Z Partners, with participation from former Charles Schwab President Timothy McCarthy and Ben Chodor, former founder and CEO of Stream57. Mr. Chodor joined Sherpa Digital Media as co-CEO and Managing Director.

Founded in July 2011 by enterprise media solution veterans K.C. Watson and Mark Strathdee, Sherpa serves global organizations like Apple, Hitachi, JPMorgan Chase, McKinsey, and Stanford School of Medicine, which uses its solutions for strategic video communications counsel and to tap into high quality live and on-demand digital media for syndication and video production.
Upon closing this new round, the company plans to expand operations in the US and internationally, starting with the opening of a new studio in New York City, an expanded San Francisco office and a satellite studio in London.
It will grow its team in San Francisco and New York.

Ben Chodor brings over 25 years of experience as a leader in the world of business video and video production. Chodor will oversee day-to-day operations of Sherpa’s Studios and Event Services division.

“As we move into the New Year, our goal is to build on our leadership position in the marketplace and help global companies navigate the changing world of video communications,” said K.C. Watson, co-CEO and co-founder of Sherpa Digital Media. “We continue to be a profitable company and look forward to the expansion of our team and global client base.”

“Going forward we will focus on the growth of the company, meeting short-term and long-term goals, as part of our continued expansion. We’re excited about the future and to have Ben join our talented team,” said Mark Strathdee, CTO and co-founder of Sherpa Digital Media.

“We’re at a crucial point for the digital media industry, as more brands continue to adopt new video platforms. Each day, I become a bigger believer in Sherpa Digital Media’s corporate vision,” said Ben Chodor, co-CEO and Managing Director of Sherpa Digital Media. “I have followed the company since its inception and look forward to working alongside Mark and K.C., as we help brands embrace the constantly changing and complex world of online video.”

Sherpa Digital Media currently has enterprise clients in financial services, technology, consumer products and healthcare industry sectors. The company helps to address common client pain points, such as high quality video production, while also serving as a strategic partner for clients who lean on Sherpa Digital Media’s expertise and in-depth understanding of digital media – from infrastructure to the delivery of video.

The New York City Studio will be open in January of 2014 and a London-based satellite office is planned for mid-2014.
