DataTorrent, a Santa Clara, Calif.-based developer of a Big Data platform built on Hadoop, raised $8m in Series A funding.
The round was led by August Capital. In conjunction with the funding, David Hornik, a partner with August Capital, will join DataTorrent’s board.
Founded by CEO Phu Hoang and CTO Amol Kekre, DataTorrent provides enterprise customers with a Hadoop-based Big Data streaming platform to process, monitor, analyze and act on data instantaneously.
The company, which had raised $750k in seed funding from Morado Ventures, AME Cloud Ventures and Farzad Nazem (in May 2012), just released Developer and Evaluation versions of the DataTorrent platform.
