Seed&Spark Closes Seed Financing

Seed&Spark, a NYC-based crowdfunding platform for independent filmmakers, closed a seed financing of undisclosed amount.

The round was led by Manitou Ventures, with participation from SourceN and a group of angel investors.

Led by Emily Best, Founder and CEO, Seed&Spark is building a filmmaking community where filmmakers and audiences join for crowd-funding, production, and streaming distribution.
The platform features projects by Founding Filmmakers, a group of independent narrative, doc, and series makers.

Its Seed&Spark Studio features a selection of fundraising campaigns for independent movie productions, which allows filmmakers to raise money, recruit, blog, and gather supporters and followers on the community page.
The core of each campaign page is a crowdfunding tool called Seed&Spark WishList. It enables filmmakers to list what they need to make, market and distribute the film. Members can support the making of a moving picture project via funding, following, and sharing and earn “Sparks”, which can be redeemed to watch movies on the streaming platform. In addition to cash donations, they can donate or loan equipment, services, locations, accommodations and catering, among others.
The company’s Seed&Spark Cinema offers films available for streaming, including those from Sundance, SXSW, Tribeca, etc.
