Top Hat Monocle, a Toronto, Canada-based mobile education platform that enables student engagement, has closed an $8m Series A financing.
The round has been led by Emergence Capital Partners and iNovia Capital, with participation from SoftTech VC, Version One Ventures (Boris Wertz) and Golden Venture Partners.
The company intends to use the funding to further develop its product offering to improve student engagement both in and outside of class, expand its sales and marketing efforts, as well as build interactive content, which will be delivered through its platform.
In conjunction with the funding, Shawn Abbott, partner at iNovia Capital and the co-inventor of the USB Key, will join the company’s board.
Founded in 2009 and led by Mike Silagadze, CEO, Top Hat Monocle also has an office in San Francisco and employs 24 full-time people.
