AlienVault Raises $8M Series B Financing

AlienVault, a Silicon Valley-based provider of an open source SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) solution, has raised an $8m Series B financing.

The round was led by Trident Capital, with participation from existing investors Adara Venture Partners and Neotec.

The company intends to use the capital to accelerate research and development and expand sales and marketing efforts.

In conjunction with the funding, Trident principal Michael Biggee joined the board and Trident Managing Director J. Alberto Yepez was named chairman.

Led by CEO Barmak Meftah and CTO Roger Thornton, AlienVault enables enterprises of all sizes to deploy and operate cost effective unified security management solutions for better threat management and easier PCI/SOX compliance. The company’s  solutions can be integrated with open source security tools including Snort, OSSEC, OpenVAS, ntop, Nagios, etc.
Its OSSIM has over 160,000 downloads and users in 80 countries. Customers include defense departments, government organizations, banks and enterprises around the globe.
