EdgeCortix, a Tokyo, Japan-based edge artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor development and design company, raised $20M in additional funding.

The round was led by SBI Investment Co. Ltd. and Global Hands-On VC (GHOVC). In addition, Renesas Electronics Corporation. Existing investors Cycle Group and Monozukuri Ventures joined the round. In conjunction with the close of this funding round, senior leaders from both Renesas and GHOVC will be joining the EdgeCortix Board of Directors.

The company intends to use the funds to bring to market SAKURA hardware products, while expanding its business by growing its global sales and marketing capabilities in Japan and open a new development center in India.

Founded by CEO Dr. Sakyasingha Dasgupta, EdgeCortix is a semiconductor company focused on energy-efficient AI processing. Taking a software-first approach, the company patented its “hardware and software co-exploration,” system, abd designed an artificial intelligence specific runtime reconfigurable processor from the ground up. Its suite of proprietary software and AI chip products accelerate AI inference tasks for computer vision, natural language processing and generative AI applications, at very low power and low latency, across the complex world of systems operating outside of typical data centers (colloquially called “the edge”). EdgeCortix ships its software and hardware products to customers globally across defense, aerospace, smart cities, industry 4.0, autonomous vehicles and robotics.
