Bon Vivant Raises $15.8M in Seed Funding

Bon Vivant, a Lyon, France-based company that uses precision fermentation to produce real dairy products, raised $15.8m in seed funding.

The round was co-led by Sofinnova Partners and Sparkfood, with participation from Captech Santé, Alliance for Impact, High Flyers Capital, Kima Ventures, Founders Future, and Picus Capital.

The company intends to use the funds to continue to expand operations and its development efforts.

Co-founded by Stéphane MacMillan and Hélène Briand, Bon Vivant reprograms yeast micro-organisms to produce animal-free dairy products, healthy, animal-free and environmentally friendly. The company programs yeasts to produce milk proteins, then cultivates them in a vegetable culture medium so that they ferment. Then, Bon Vivant filters this culture medium in order to separate the yeast from the proteins to obtain a pure milk protein, 100% identical to those produced by the cow but without lactose, without cholesterol, without antibiotics and with a lower environmental impact.
