eniferBio, a Espoo, Finland-based biotech startup, raised €11M in Series A funding.
The round was led by Aqua-Spark, with participation from Tesi, Valio, Voima Ventures and Nordic Foodtech VC.
The company intends to use the funds to scale up the production of its PEKILO mycoprotein.
Led by CEO Simo Ellilä, eniferBio is a biotechnology company that supplies a product, PEKILO, which contains very high levels of protein, healthy carbs, fats, and minerals. The fungus that, through a special fermentation process, can produce a protein-rich dried powder and has a wide range of use cases, such as pet food and aquafeed.
eniferBio already has ongoing partnerships with big global companies in the feed and food industries, such as Skretting, the global aquafeed division of Nutreco, Purina for pet food, and Valio for consumer food products. Its next phase includes developing products fit for consumers through collaboration with Valio, a brand leader in Finland and a major player in the international dairy ingredients market.
