Here Not There Labs, a remote startup advancing new models of communication at the forefront of the internet, raised $25.5m in Series A funding.
The round was led by Andreessen Horowitz via a16zcrypto, with participation from Benchmark and Framework Ventures.
The company intends to use the funds to expand operations and its development efforts.
Here Not There Labs is developing towns, a near real-time group chat protocol and app designed for online communities to build better hometowns on the internet. Towns allows a community’s members to own their town squares with a fully decentralized, end-to-end encrypted chat protocol.
While the company will be stewarding the product initially, governance and control of Towns will be transitioned to the Towns DAO progressively as they move towards decentralization of the network.
