Checkmate Raises $5M in Seed Funding

Checkmate, a San Francisco, CA-based provider of a personalized smart shopping platform that enables users to discover brands, apply savings and manage their orders post-purchase, raised $5m in seed funding.

The round was led by Fuel Capital, with participation from Kevin Johnson, former CEO of Ebates at Rakuten, f7 Ventures, Blackbird Ventures, Scribble Ventures, Hyper, Susa Ventures, Liquid 2 Ventures, Wischoff Ventures, Exits Capital, Night Capital, Ancestry CEO Deborah Liu, Firstbase CEO Chris Herd and XMTP Co-Founder and President Shane Mac.

The company plans to use the funds to accelerate product development and customer growth.

Led by Harry Dixon, CEO, Checkmate provides a free personalized tool for smart shoppers that streamlines the e-commerce experience from start to finish. Available as both a mobile app/extension and laptop extension, the company offers a technology platform that finds the best deals from users’ email inboxes and across the web and automatically applies them at checkout. Users can also track all their packages and store and manage their gift cards through its dashboard. For retailers and brands, the tool works as a conversion engine that also enables businesses to reach new audiences and build long-term customer relationships.

The company formally launched its personalized smart shopping tool in the summer of 2022.
