Chainguard Raises $5M in Seed Funding

Chainguard, Inc., a San Francisco, CA-based supply chain security startup, raised $5m in seed funding.

The round was led by Amplify Partners and┬áa number of angels including, Eric Brewer, VP at Google,┬áMaya Kaczorowski, Product at Tailscale, Brandon Phillips, former CTO at CoreOS, Stephen Augustus, Head of Open Source at Cisco, Joe Duffy, CEO of Pulumi, Solomon Boulos, former Google exec and founder of Google’s OCTO,┬áand Gordon Chaffee, former Google exec.

The company intends to use the funds to expand operations and focus on bringing its solutions to market.

Co-founded by Dan Lorenc, Matt Moore, Scott Nichols, Ville Aikas, and Kim Lewandowski, Chainguard provides a solution to securing software supply chains rooting it in open source, standards, and communities to manage open source libraries, frameworks, and runtimes software apps consume.

The team worked together at Google on many of the foundational container projects, including: Minikube, Distroless, Skaffold, Knative, Tekton, Kaniko, ko, and, most recently, the open source security projects Sigstore and SLSA.
