The @ Company Secures $8M in Seed Funding

The @ Company

The @ Company, a San Jose, CA-based creator of an open-source application development platform that protects personal data, raised $8m in seed funding.

The round, which brought total funding to $11m, was led by Kirk Brown.

The company intends to use the funds to advance its development efforts to get privacy-first apps to consumers and enhance tools for developers to build more end-to-end encrypted apps.

Led by Barbara Tallent, CEO, The @ Company has created an internet protocol that protects privacy by putting personal data back to people. The @platform equips developers with the self-serve tools they need to quickly build, launch, and market apps that offer completely new online experiences. These peer-to-peer, surveillance-free apps require no passwords, are end-to-end encrypted, and enable People to own and control their own data. The number of hyperconnected experiences possible with the @platform will increase as more @apps are built. To-date, there are more than 30 apps currently in development or public beta, such as @buzz, or fully launched, such as @wavi.
