Sports Media Startup Wave Secures $3.3M in Funding

Wave, a San Francisco, CA-based sports media startup, secured $3.3m in funding.

Backers included King’s venture arm Sweet Capital, VC Golden Ventures, advertising veteran and digital media visionary Larry Braitman and angel investor Tom Williams.

The company is using the funds to continue to expand the network and reach, and invest in original content.

Founded in 2017 by Brian Verne and Ishaan Sutaria, Wave is a sports media company with a focus on delivering content to sports fans on the platforms they use the most. Its numbers include a network of 24 million followers, 725m monthly content views, and 50m monthly engagements.

The company owns and operates a network of more than 100 social channels that cater to a variety of sports, teams, stars and trends. Their biggest Instagram channels, including WAVE.TV, Greatest Highlights, No Huddle, Best Goals, and Break Ankles Daily, have in excess of one million followers each. These channels are maintained by dedicated sports fans as part of its decentralized newsroom, which ensures that the content is generated by the same types of personalities that the company counts among its audience.

The network covers every sport, from Basketball to Cricket, and hosts hyper-specific communities for single events and sportsmen.
