NakedWines.com, a Norwich, UK-based online wine retailer, raised $10m in funding.
WIV Wein International AG, a group of direct wine selling companies and a founding shareholder, has made a third round investment in the business.
The company intends to use the funds to accelerate its expansion into the US and Australian markets.
Founded in 2008 by by Rowan Gormley (founder of Virgin Money and Virgin Wines), NakedWines allows regular customers, who are called angels, to invest into independent winemakers, in exchange for wholesale pricing – typically 40-60% below retail prices.
To date, 150,000 angel customers worldwide have invested over $40m in more than 130 winemakers on four continents with 10,000,000 bottles of wine a year shipped in USA, UK and Australia.
