LearnVest Raises $16.5M in Funding

LearnVest, a New York City-based startup that provides a personalized financial planning program, raised $16.5m in funding.

Backers included existing investor Accel Partners, and new investors American Express Ventures, Claritas Capital, Ed Mathias (founding member of Carlyle) and Todd Ruppert (Former CEO and President of T. Rowe Price Global Investment Services).

Founded by in 2009 by Alexa Von Tobel, LearnVest offers the LearnVest Action Program, which aims to help users cut expenses and invest their money via certified financial planners who offer customized expertise based on financial needs and goals. The company is now launching “Workplace Solutions”, a financial wellness platform that companies can offer as an employee benefit.
LearnVest, which also opened a west coast office in Phoenix, Arizona, is hiring there and in NYC (read here).
Current key managers listed in the company’s web site include Ainslie Simmonds, Chief Marketing & Product Officer, Carrie Sloan, Editor in Chief, Hrishi Dixit, Chief Technology Officer, Jacquelyn White, VP of Strategic Partnerships, Karim Naraghi, VP of Business Development.
