Zoobean Raises $500K in Seed Funding

Zoobean, a Washington, D.C.-based online store for children’s books, raised $500k in seed funding.

The round was led by Kapor Capital, with participation from unnamed private investors.

The company will be used for strategic marketing initiatives and early product iteration.

Co-founded by husband and wife Felix Brandon Lloyd and Jordan Lloyd Bookey both former teachers, Zoobean offers a subscription service and direct sales of its books, which are cataloged by recommended age, relevant topics, characters’ backgrounds, and other tags that matter to families. A portion of the company’s sales will benefit a youth literacy nonprofit each month. The first benefactor is Reach Incorporated, which develops grade-level readers by training teens to teach.
