Care.com, a Waltham, MA-based company that operates an online care destination, has closed $50m in new funding.
The round was led by Institutional Venture Partners (IVP), with participation from existing investors Matrix Partners, New Enterprise Associates and Trinity Ventures, among others.
Founded in 2006 by CEO Sheila Lirio Marcelo, Care.com provides families with e-tools and information to connect with caregivers to help manage the lifecycle of care: childcare, including special needs, senior care, pet care, housekeeping, tutoring, etc. For Fortune 500 companies, educational institutions, technology companies, and professional services firms Care.com offers memberships as a benefit to employees through its Workplace Solutions program.
Earlier this year, the company acquired Berlin, germany-based Besser Betreut, a European online care, and launched Care.com in the UK and Canada.
The web site currently has approximately 7 million members in more than 15 countries,
In conjunction with the funding, Sandy Miller, General Partner of IVP, will join Care.com’s Board of Directors.
