AQT Solar, a Sunnyvale, CA-based developer of low-cost CIGS (copper-indium-gallium-diselenide) thin-film solar cells, has secured $18.7m in Series B venture funding.
The company intends to use the funds to deploy a second CIGS line at the its Sunnyvale facility, which will have an installed solar cell capacity of more than 30MW by mid-year.
Founded in 2007 and led by CEO Michael Bartholomeusz, AQT Solar deploys a proprietary process on proven manufacturing platforms to produce high-performance, low-cost CIGS thin-film solar cells. Its CIGS 2.0 technology allows continuous in-line production, which simplifies and streamlines the manufacturing process, while minimizing component costs.
