Johnson Publishing Company Receives Investment from JPMorgan Chase

Johnson Publishing Company, Inc., the Chicago, IL-based publisher of EBONY and JET magazines and owner of Fashion Fair Cosmetics, a global cosmetics brand for women of color, has received an investment of undisclosed amount from JPMorgan Chase’s Special Investments Group (SIG).

The investment will support the company’s next phase of growth.

Founded in 1942 by John H. Johnson, Johnson Publishing Company is an independently-owned Black American media publisher with offices in New York and London. Since 1973, the company onws Fashion Fair Cosmetics, a global prestige cosmetics brand for women of color that is currently sold in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France and the Caribbean.

EBONY and JET, which have served the Black community for more than 60 years, have a circulation of 1.25m copies per month and 800,000 per week. They are the number 1 and 3 publications, respectively, focused on Black America.

Chairman of the company currently is Linda Johnson Rice.
