Our.News, a Troy, NY-based provider of a crowdsourced news validation platform, raised $100,000 in pre-seed funding.
The company will use the funds to build upon on their existing Beta prototype, with the goal of a fully-featured production release in Q2 2018.
Founded in 2016 and led by CEO Richard Zack, Our.News provides a platform that allows anyone to participate in the news by simplifying fact-checking, and letting users rate news content on various factors. It uses a combination of crowdsourcing and patent-pending algorithms to provide neutral background data, ratings, sources, related articles, and more, and then allows the public to rate the news or digital content for several factors.
The company also announced a new partnership with pollster John Zogb, who will help the startup bring its platform to the public. This follows a partnership with Educational Vistas, Inc. of Schenectady, New York, to give students at over 350 school districts across New York State the free tools they need to fact-check and participate in news validation.
