Tonbo Imaging Raises $17M in Series B Funding

Tonbo Imaging, a manufacturer of night vision imaging systems for defense, surveillance and transportation safety markets, has secured $17m in Series B financing.

This round was led by WRV Capital with participation from Qualcomm Ventures, the investment arm of Qualcomm Incorporated, Edelweiss Private Equity and Artiman Ventures and existing investors Artiman Ventures. In conjunction with the funding, Ganapathy Subramaniam from WRV Capital and Pranav Parikh from Edelweiss Private Equity have joined Tonbo’s Board of Directors.

The company intends to use the funds to continue expanding its global reach in defense markets, accelerate product growth and innovation in automotive safety markets and continue evaluating strategic acquisition opportunities in specialized technology areas of lasers and photonics.

Led by Arvind Lakshmikumar, CEO, Tonbo Imaging has developed technology which combines innovations in the image acquisition process along with computer vision algorithms to support superior night vision imaging and scene interpretation for a wide range of applications. The company’s products are deployed across 25 countries addressing needs spanning surveillance, reconnaissance and targeting across ground, air and naval applications.
Customers include global military forces, Tier I defense and homeland security agencies.

Tonbo has over 170 specialized imaging, machine learning and computer vision engineers located in Bangalore, Palo Alto, Greece, Poland and Singapore.
